About this piece
Constructed in rattan with tightly woven wicker panelling, this vintage three drawer chest carries a herringbone weave across its top, sides and drawer fronts. Substantial spiral wrapped rattan frames every exposed edge and separates the drawers, while simple wrapped pulls and darkened bindings maintain the same material language throughout. The unusual strength of this piece lies not simply in the weave but in the weight and continuity of its ornamental framing, which extends around the entire carcass rather than being confined to the facade. Low broad proportions and the repetition of natural texture give the chest a grounded tropical modernist presence suited to bedroom storage, an entrance hall or a console height position within a relaxed interior.
