This is an excellent example of a high quality ( due to being finished in exotic prestigious imported Rosewood from Brazil ) and rare ( due to being inlaid ) genuine antique French 19th century Louis Philippe period Commode / Chest of Drawers made between 1830 and 1840.
The case and all the drawer components are made from solid heavy and very durable French Oak with the exterior finished with exotic and prestigious imported Rosewood from the Central Americas.
The protruding top has a bold double edge reeding and a selected highly figured Rosewood finish.
There are four drawers in all with the top drawer being flush fitting and shaped to match the curve at the top of the chest. The other three drawers below are stacked and full width. Internally between each tier of drawers are full depth dust catchers. The lower drawers ane recessed and flush fitting.
All drawers are complete with locks and key hole escutcheons and surrounding the key hole escutcheons are circular stylised floral or sun burst inlays. All drawers have horizontal opposed stylised inlays from the key hole area. The lower three drawers also have corner positioned classic Empire wreaths with stylised palm leaf inlays within. These are all connected by fine line inlays.
The Commode / Chest stands on small turned bun feet.
Condition: Extremely original which is very desirable. Rosewood was traditionally very dark however this piece has now mellowed into a lovely honey colour.
