This is a most attractive and stylish, very practical, genuine and classic French, 1930s Art Deco period Writing Desk with a classic Empire stylistic influence and is complete with its original desk Chair. The desk is rectangular in form and is constructed from and lined with quality French Oak and is then finished in rare and exotic honey coloured Amboyna as is the Chair. The desk has a cross banded edge top with a recessed inset top tooled leather writing surface plus has a full width knee hole drawer and deep drawers on either side which form the semi pedestals, with one drawer having an internal well fitted lockable compartment within. The other side of the desk is an identical ‘mirror image’ visually except the drawers are ‘faux’. The desk does not necessarily have to be placed against a wall as being double sided it is finished on all sides and is embellished all round with brass strip inlay, cross bandings, Ebony line inlays brass drawer pull handles, geometric inlays to the drawer fronts and inlaid fruit wood swags to the side panels. The legs are corner positioned turned and tapered with cast brass mounts top and bottom.
This desk as it is finished all round can be used either free standing or against a wall.
The Chair is inlaid to match the Desk and has a leather seat with a brass studded perimeter finish.
We are also able to offer the original matching two door glazed Armoire / Bookcase / Cabinet to complete the suite if required for an additional $2,750.
Condition: The structure is solid and the original hand French polish is very good.
The leather writing surface is scuffed and may require replacing which means that it can be done so in a colour leather of your choice and be gold tooled to taste. We can organise this work at a very reasonable trade price if required.
