Fredericia Furniture Stingray chair designed by Thomas Pedersen in 2002. This rocking chair is not only stunning to look at, it is also super comfortable.
The shell is made of vacuum-suctioned high gloss plastic shell. The steel frame has been constructed without any transverse lines thus accentuating the floating appearance of the chair.
Great vintage condition.
First launched in 2002 by Danish designer Thomas Pedersen and produced by Fredericia Furniture, the Stingray was a graduate project for Aarhus School of Architecture. Designed with the human body in mind, Pedersen used the ergonomics of water to produce a chair that would make the sitter feel that he/she is floating. The chair is rendered in acrylic with a steel frame and it comes with a neck pillows to make it even more cosy.
The Stingray chair's shell, crafted from fiberglass-reinforced polyester, gracefully envelops the sitter, providing both comfort and support.
The organic shape of the chair feels both indulgent and functional; the function, of course, being repose. This is modern Danish design at its best: a chair that is useful and beautiful, with the steel base recalling mid-century modern furniture and its undulating body recalling the ocean.
Like the marine animal for which it is named, the Stingray chair is surprisingly big. It stretches out like rippling water, with waves that create the perfect indentations to not only sit, but to recline

Design Story
Born in 1914 in Tønder, Wegner trained as a cabinetmaker before studying design in Copenhagen. That technical background shaped his philosophy for the rest of his career: furniture should be beautiful, functional, and constructed with complete honesty.
During the mid 20th century, Wegner became a central figure of Danish modern design, creating chairs that balanced sculptural elegance with everyday comfort. His most famous work, the Wishbone Chair, became an icon for its flowing organic form and hand woven paper cord seat. Across more than 500 chair designs, Wegner repeatedly explored how minimal structures could still feel warm and human.
Unlike many modernists who embraced industrial aesthetics, Wegner focused deeply on craftsmanship and natural materials. His furniture celebrated visible joints, smooth curves, and the tactile beauty of wood, making each piece feel timeless rather than fashionable.
Today, Hans J. Wegner’s designs remain among the most respected and collected pieces in Scandinavian furniture history. Whether in contemporary homes, luxury interiors, or design museums, his work continues to embody the idea that simplicity, when executed perfectly, can feel almost timeless.
