This 1981 Italian ceramic lamp is a excellent preserved example of the collaboration between Bitossi Ceramiche and the prominent importer Nora Fenton. Dated January 3, 1981, on the base, the piece represents a shift toward a more brutalist, earth-toned aesthetic through deeply incised geometric patterns and a matte, stone-like glaze. Specifically finished in the refined Seta (Silk) style, the soft celadon tone and precise horizontal banding marked a move toward a more understated, architectural look in the early 1980s.
The heavy ceramic body and textured surface details remain sharp and undamaged. For safety and longevity, the lamp has undergone a full electrical assessment and comes professionally tested and tagged to Australian standards. A significant acquisition for collectors of Italian export pottery, showcasing the sophisticated palette of Bitossi’s late-century production.

By the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bitossi’s export market was largely driven by Nora Fenton. This era saw a transition from the vibrant, high-gloss Rimini Blue into more sophisticated, muted palettes like this celadon Seta finish. These pieces are highly collectible for their tactile quality and represent the final era of handcrafted Italian exports before the shift toward mass-production.
