This stoneware bowl by Harold Hughan is decorated with an iron oxide glaze with an abstract pattern. The back of the bowl features spiral fluting which adds a nice touch. The base carries Hughan's impressed rebus "HGI" for "Hughan Glen Iris", Glen Iris being the suburb of Melbourne where he lived and potted. It measures 165 mm in diameter, stands 58 mm high and is in very good condition. It would date from the 1960's or 70's.
Hughan was awarded an MBE in 1978, for services to pottery.
