Percival Lafer is one of the most prolific and groundbreaking Brazilian furniture designers of all time, a pioneer of modernism. His career spans four decades, venturing from the more traditional and brutalist form right through to the more avant-garde space age movements.
Born in 1936, he graduated with a degree in Architecture from Universidade Mackenzie in São Paulo. He began designing furniture in 1961.
Percival Lafer’s furniture not only captured the modernist aesthetic of the moment, but was exquisitely crafted using gorgeous, solid hardwoods that were novel to international consumers. In later years, his focus on materiality shifted from fine timbers towards heavy duty steel, from which he composed intricate and ergonomic recliner systems of the highest mechanic quality. With burnished leather upholstery and meticulous finishing details, Lafer’s pieces are highly sought after and cherished by collectors worldwide, throughout the Americas, Western Europe, Scandinavia, and Australia.

Designed in 2002 and no longer in production, the Billie recliner arm chair exhibits Lafer’s patented deco, post-modern design panache, and boasts matchless ergonomic features. With top grain white leather, eye-catching arched armrests and matte finished tubular steel frame, this piece possesses a Memphis style, pop-art flair that embodies both playfulness and luxury in equal measures.
The leather presents beautifully, with next to no wear. Functionally, this piece operates perfectly, with a retractable footrest, backrest inclination from 90º (seated) to 170º (sleeping position), and headrest adjustment.
