English Victorian credenza, circa 1880, in the French Napoleon III manner. Configured in three sections: curved glazed display cabinets at each end with velvet-lined shelves, and a central flat blind recessed-panel door concealing a shelved storage compartment.
Ebonised throughout and detailed with multiple horizontal applied gilt brass mouldings, fine line inlays, and Amboyna crossbanding. The central door carries a ‘Serves’ hand-painted oval plaque, framed by decorative foliate gilt brass mouldings. Three smaller gilt-framed painted porcelain plaques are set on the frieze, centred above each door. The vertical dividers between sections feature bold, well-cast gilt mounts at the upper and lower points.
Set on a shaped plinth base with short turned legs.
Dimensions: 150 cm W x 37 cm D x 107 cm H
Condition: Excellent original condition, commensurate with age and use.
Provenance: Possibly made by C and R Light, London cabinetmakers of quality furniture from 1855 until 1925.
