This is a high quality and rare compact size genuine antique English George IV period 1820s Sofa Table / Reading Lectern / Side Table made from selected imported highly figured and heavy finest quality Cuban Mahogany.
The top is rectangular in form as is the frieze which has a full width cock beaded drawer with two well turned drawer pull knobs. on the rear side is a faux drawer so the table is finished all round and does not necessarily have to go against a wall. When opened there is a hinged lectern with many angle adjustments which is awaiting having a replacement gold tooled leather writing surface installed as the existing one was frayed with age.
The whole is supported on a central semi cluster of columns each well turned and of upward taper and featuring a lower carved stylised Tulip. The shaped base platform is quadruped and under each lobe is a superbly carved Lion paw foot with rear scrolls. Beneath are the original all brass castor assemblies.
Condition: Excellent for age and will be complete with the gold tooled leather writing surface.
