For the connoisseur of Japanese At & Antiques
Fine quality Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) Satsuma Earthenware Vase with Gosu (Imperial) Blue Borders, Figural Panels & Rich Gilt Detailing.
Signed to the base in gold by known Meiji period Satsuma artist: Imasu beneath the Shimazu Family Mon.
Of footed ovoid form, this vase is archetypal Meiji Period Satsuma ware; with borders glazed heavily in sought after Gosu Blue around unglazed reserves that have then been hand painted with such delicacy they appear as light & soft at watercolours. In this case each reserve is a bustling scene, with Ladies, Geisha, men & children all going about their business in a garden scene with pavilions.
To further accentuate the already exquisitely painted scenes, gold gilding has been applied; to the fabrics in unique repeating patterns, making the silk brocade of their Kimono & Obi appear even more realistic, in fact key parts of each element all feature this unique application of gilt patterning, even the Gosu Blue borders have had a repeating pattern applied to them.
