Designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1956 and produced by Fritz Hansen, the PK22 is a defining example of Danish modernist restraint, where flat spring steel forms a continuous base supporting a suspended leather seat. Kjærholm approached furniture with the discipline of an industrial designer, refining proportion and material rather than adding detail, resulting in a chair that sits low and precise within a space. The 1987 production retains this original intent, with leather now softened through use and the steel frame holding its exacting line. It settles into interiors with quiet authority, offering a measured counterpoint to heavier forms.
