The restrained case is enlivened by exceptionally expressive book-matched veneers across the three drawers and gently projecting frieze, displaying feathered, flame and crotch figure in warm amber and deep brown tones.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe commode retains its original white and grey veined marble top, above three full-width drawers with brass escutcheons, raised on a moulded plinth and characteristic block feet. The simplicity of the form places particular emphasis on the quality and arrangement of the walnut, with the lower drawers presenting especially dramatic mirrored figuring.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe surface has been carefully cleaned and revived while retaining the scratches, marks, minor veneer losses and variations associated with age and use. The marble is in very good condition. The locks do not function, however, a key is retained for use as a drawer pull.
