A further deep drawer forms the plinth base, raised on block feet. The fall opens to reveal a fitted writing interior with three small drawers decorated with contrasting line inlay and pale ornamental escutcheons, retaining its extensively worn leather writing surface. Brass escutcheons throughout.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe restrained classical architecture, strongly figured mahogany and symmetrical veneer treatment are characteristic of the northern European interpretation of the Empire style. Its comparatively low, broad proportions are particularly distinctive.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn good antique condition with age-related wear throughout, including marks, scratches, minor veneer losses and variations to the historic finish. The leather writing surface is heavily worn and marked consistent with extensive historic use. Retaining a particularly attractive aged surface and strong colour.
