A late 18th-early 19th century English poudreuse vanity table, often referred to as a Beau Brummell chest. These men’s vanity tables were popular during the 18th and 19th centuries among the wealthy and noble, to store an array of powders, wigs, and perfumes. During the 18th century the poudreuse table became associated with Georgian dandy Beau Brummell, who claimed that he spent five hours getting dressed, and would polish his boots with champagne.
This piece features a rich flame mahogany veneer with a dark and light timber banding. The interior is broken up into several mahogany compartments, with a fold up sliding mirror occupying the center.
