The underside of the bowl is decorated with gilding as are the legs and base. The diameter of the bowl is 284 mm (11.25 inches) and it stands 148 mm (5.75 inches) high. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt is a substantial piece weighing in at 1.69 kg (3.72 pounds). Overall its condition is very good, with some very minor loss of the gilding, mainly to the high spots, a 5 mm (.25 inch) long firing crack to the base of the foot rim of the bowl where it joins the base, and some minor glaze faults ex the kiln. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSome of these faults are barely noticeable to the naked eye. It is unmarked but the gadrooned edge is typical of Chamberlains. Examples can be seen in Colour Plate XII and plate 152, amongst others, in \"Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain\" by Geoffrey Godden 1992. Engraved on the top of the lid is \"Presented to James Harris Esq. by the O'Donovan July 8th 1856\", and the letters J H are also engraved on the front. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\"The O'Donovan\" would have been Henry Winthrop O'Donovan (1812-1890), the hereditary chief of Clan Cathal, based around Cork in Ireland. The case is 63 mm (2.5 inches) high, 30 mm (1.25 inches) wide and 10 mm (3\/8ths of an inch) thick. On the front page of the notebook is written a series of initials above the date \"Christmas 1884\". The mother of pearl base is undecorated. The length is 82 mm (3.25 inches), the width, including the hinge and the thumbpiece, is 21 mm (.75 of an inch) and it stands 12 mm (.5 of an inch) high. The next drawer down features two storage trays to accomodate her jewellery, and at the bottom is a pull out writing slope with provision for ink, pens and paper. The front doors are veneered with coromandel and inlaid with a very intricate design using abalone shell, mother-of-pearl and gilt brass. The lid features similar decoration, whilst the ebonised body is left undecorated. On either side of the body are two turned, ebonised handles. It stands 350 mm high (13.75 inches), is 318 mm (12.5 inches) wide and measures 242 mm (9.5 inches) in depth. The jewellery drawer looks like it has never been used, with the fabric and the gilt tooled leather in lovely condition. There are slight signs of use to the sewing compartment and to the felt on the writing slope but overall it is in wonderful condition. The tureen measures 233 mm (9.25 inches) in width, is 210 mm (8.25 inches) in depth and stands 110 mm (4.25 inches) high. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt is unmarked, but it is the same as a marked specimen where the base carried the mark \"Turner's Patent\". The two high comports feature more sprays to the foot and the underneath of the top. The two high cake stands, or comports, stand 115 mm (4.5 inches) high and have a diameter of 235 mm (9.25 inches), whist the four low comports each stand 48 mm (1 7\/8ths inches) high and have a diameter of 235 mm (9.25 inches). Where the base of the handle joins the body, Hughan has raised a shallow herringbone design, and together with the thumb piece at the top of the handle, this gives the pot some nice little understated features. The base carries Hughan's painted signature as well as his impressed rebus. It stands 175 mm high, and the body has a diameter of 170mm.
